Waterman Lions Club  Gobbler Gallop
Waterman Lions Club is sponsoring their third annual Gobbler Gallop, a 5K Walk/Run, on Saturday, November 21, starting at 9 a.m. The event will be held in Waterman. The course, which is USATF certified, will be run on the scenic village streets.

Runners and walkers may register online at Signmeup.com or request an entry form by contacting Karen Fenske at 815-264-3576.

Waterman Lions Club will use the proceeds from the Gobbler Gallop to benefit the SightFirst II Campaign of Lions Club International Foundation. SightFirst was launched by Lions to battle preventable blindness. Lions have restored sight to 7.3 million people through cataract surgeries. They have prevented vision loss for another 20 million through distribution of sight-saving medications and lenses. Lions have improved eye care services for hundreds of millions through building eye hospitals and clinics and training eye care professionals.

Campaign SightFirst II will enable Lions to expand the extraordinary work of this sight-saving program. Its goal is to raise at least $150 million to continue to prevent blindness and restore sight.

Chief Shabbona Forest Preserve – Chief Shabbona Forest Preserve is located 7 miles west of our orchard in Shabbona, IL.  It is named after Chief Shabbona, a Pottawami Indian chief who lived in the area in the 1800’s.   The forest preserve has beautiful nature trails, a playground and shelter houses.

Shabbona Lake State Park – Located 7 miles away in Shabbona, IL, this beautiful state park has very nice picnic areas, hiking trails, great fishing and abundant wildlife.

HOKA Turkey Farm - Located 2 miles west of Waterman just off of Rt. 30.  These turkeys are raised on open ranges at the Kauffman family farm.  The turkeys are given a feed which contains corn grown on the farm.  They are never fed hormones or antibiotics for growth promotion.  The results are a better quality and more flavorful meat.

Waterman Winery and Vineyards – Located just an 1/8 of a mile from our orchard, Waterman Winery and Vineyards produces unique DeKalb County white and red wines.  The grapes used are varieties suitable for northern Illinois.  The 10 acre vineyard includes 30 cultivars, many of which are French-American hybrids.  The winery is currently open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Call 815-264-3268 for further information.  Stop by for a visit and taste DeKalb County's Sunset Wine.  We can personally vouch for the quality!
